Task K - Final Poster

Task J - Lasercut model

LED Light decoration - Vivid Theme

Task I - Final renders

Task H - Words

The Asteroid building is a proposed development to replace the current Bennelong
Apartment complex in Circular Quay. Designed to complement the neighbouring
Sydney Opera House with its unique complicated form and its white finish. The
Asteriod building connects people’s activities and its movement between Circular
Quay and Opera House as the surface creates dynamic forms and spaces.
The visualisation of this surface architecture can be conveyed that architecture can
link with the landscape; Darling Harbour and Botanical Gardens physically and symbolically.
The characteristic of water and land are combined into this cracked and
wavy skin of the architecture.
Also the surface of this architecture is designed to be a solar skin with its innovative
solar panels
This organic form and the solar skin are also an exploration of contemporary energy
efficiency.
The Asteriod building will be a mixed retail and a big recreational complex. Retail
shops and restaurants will occupy in the lower levels, with some of these retail outlets
fronting on to the pedestrian walkway, and the others forming a large shopping
centre further inside. The upper levels will consist mainly of public exhibition and
expo space with stunning harbourside views. The long space like a tunnel creates an
easy circulation of pathway for the public as well as allowing tourists the opportunity
to experience fantastic views from the very top.

The Asteriod Building was inspired by a study into the ways in which surface
and skin architecture can be used to create links to the landscape and topological
architecture how transform into spatial forms.
Lars Spuybroek has significantly influenced into this Asteriod building, with his
FreshH20 eXPO Pavilion work. His study on variation and complex geometry to
deform classical architecture.

The location of the site is in Circular Quay, where currently the
Bennelong Apartment is located, next to Opera House from right
and Circular Quay station from left and opposite from the Museum
of Contemporary Art.

They are 16 iterations to explore both in forms and surface architecture. These variation of base
form were produced through altering the frequency and amplitude of curves of ellipse (curving the
form). The variation of surface form were created through altering the heights, offset, frequency of
multiple rectangulars in volonoi (attaching the volonoi forms). Each of these variation has unique
and interesting skin structure with aesthetic qualities.
The laser cut model, (illustrated in the image to the right) was designed by slicing it vertically. Each
slices was attached to wires both left and right side with a spacer. Having space between slices
(layers) with spacers creates it structural and abstract visual qaulity.

Task G - Lasercut

I wanted to do 3d Printing since lasercutting for my model is going to
so complicated and hard to transform that into lasercutting file ai.
but 3d Printing cost went over $200, decided to keep it with lasercut.
